Thessaloniki Transportation

 

Thessaloniki is the biggest city in Nothern Greece and the second largest city in Greece.

It is located in one of the most strategic points of the Balkan Peninsula, on the waterfront of a natural port in the Thermaikos Gulf and for many centuries has been a commercial and cultural center of its territory. In the antiquity the city was founted by Kassandros on the place were the even older Therme once stood and in the Byzantine years it was the second most important city of the Byzantine empire.

 

Nowardays Thessaloniki is a pachwork of different influences due to its long history of different nations leaving there. A fusion of cultures is obvious in the character of the city. Its population, which is almost exclusively made up of Greek inhabitants, enjoy the atmosphere of a busy and cosmopolitan city of lively boulevards, shopping areas and night clubs.

 

The city plan is quite plain of main boulevards parallel to the waterfront being cut in the middle by The International Trade Grounds and the Aristotle University.

 

The public transportation in Thessaloniki is consisted basically of bus transfers.

 

Buses: A bus terminal is located just outside the City°s Railway station on Monastiriou Street with connections to all the city and some suburbun areas.

Taxis: Taxis in the city are numerous and if you need a taxi at a certain time you can call the station and reserve it. They are punctual and trustworthy. Drivers routinely pick up other passengers en route, and often refuse to take customers to destinations deemed inconvenient.
