The most famous cultural events in Thessaloniki are :

 

The Documentary Festival in March. This Festival was first intoduced in 1999 incourraged by the generous responce of the public of Thessaloniki. Since then it introduces new images of the new century, new film ecritures, new directors, new technologies, but also representatives of the film world who find there a reliable organisation, appropriate for promoting their work.“The images of the 21st century„ as it is also called, attracts visitors that seek an in-depth reading of the human landscape through a journey into the art of documentary (www.filmfestival.gr/docfestival ).

 

            The Thessaloniki International Wine Competition in March. The “Thessaloniki International Wine Competition” appears to have a stable and successful course, gothering wines from all over the world, judged by distinguished, Greek and foreigners tasters. It is the only International Wine Competition that takes place in Greece under the patronage of the International Organization of Vine and Wine. The organizers aim mainly to present to both public and trade people the richness of the, Greek and international, quality wine production and make known the Greek grape varieties.             The Dimitria Festival in August.  This Festival is the biggest in Nothern Greece. It exists for about 39 years and in the year 2004 held more than 99 events. It expants for many months (from the end of August until late November) and aims in promoting the culture of Nothern Greece and hosting cultural events from all over the world. It also contributes the cultural collaboration of Balkan cities.(www.dimitria2004.gr).

 

             The International Trade Fair in September. This excibition with its 80 year old history invites the businness world every year in a commercial fair. ts principal goal is to promote the greek productivity and development in an internationally competitive environment, helping in the growth of the local, national and regional economy.             The International Thessaloniki Film Festival  in November. The International Thessaloniki Film Festival has become the Balkans' primary showcase for the work of new and emerging filmmakers, as well as the leading film festival in the region. The event features the International Section, the panorama of Greek films, the New Horizons program, the Balkan Survey, and numerous retrospectives and tributes to leading figures in the world of film.   (www.filmfestival.gr)
