Mamma Mia in Greece !!!!

Go to fullsize imageGo to fullsize imageJames Bond star Pierce Brosnan will begin filming this month a Hollywood version of the hit musical "Mamma Mia" on the Greek island of Skiathos, the show said Wednesday.

Co-star Meryl Streep may also make an appearance when filming begins there and on the neighbouring island of Skopelos on August 29, a production official was quoted.

The film is hoping to recreate the success of the British musical, created in 1999 using songs by hit Swedish band Abba, for the big screen.

The story is about a young girl who is about to get married and decides to try to find the father she never knew.

Brosnan, will play -- and sing -- one of her possible dads and Streep will play her mother.

Actor Tom Hanks is producing the film, due to be screened next year, and the stage musical's British creator, Phyllida Lloyd, will direct.

The residents of Skopelos are delighted that the movie will be filmed there and are hoping that this will help incite tourist to visit the island. Greek authorities have in recent years been promoting the country as a film location

Parking Spaces Rare commodity

Athens ParkingTHE CITY of Athens on November 2 presented a new municipal parking system, more than six years after the last attempt to charge for parking in the congested Greek capital was abandoned. According to outgoing Athens Mayor Theodoros Behrakis, the new system will take effect on November 20, with the first phase of implementation involving a total of 5,494 parking spaces, 2,538 of which will be exclusively reserved for permanent residents. One thousand spaces will be designated for special use - ministries, public welfare organisations - while the remaining 1,956 are for short-term visitors. The municipality of Athens is the largest district - in terms of size and population - in what is known as the greater Athens area, or Athens-Piraeus, a region of the Attica prefecture that includes dozens of municipalities and roughly half of Greece's total population. Behrakis said permanent residents will be able to park in their designated spaces without time limitations for an annual fee of 10 euros.

ONCE the big decision to retire is made, many people also decide to move.

Retiring abroad, whether it's for good or for just part of the year, has become an increasingly popular choice, particularly among retirees from countries with long winters and high taxes.
